When I was in the early stages of researching for IF I PERISH, there were several questions I had. One was why would Mordecai be allowed to visit Hadassah/Esther within the palace grounds when no one knew they were related? Then I remembered my friend Annette’s daughter Katelyn. Katelyn has several food allergies, some which are serious.
That lead me to researching the physicians of the Achaemenid Empire. There were five different types of physicians, including one similar to modern dieticians, who treated illness by adjusting the patient’s diet. I decided Hadassah/Esther would have food allergies. Annette and Katelyn graciously answered my many questions about this condition.
