“The Carpenter and His Bride: The Birth” of Hope by Paula K. Parker is a biblical fiction novel with a plausible presentation of the story of Joseph and Mary and the birth of Jesus. It has engaging dialogue, interesting characters (even the animals have names and personalities), historical details, and the familiar Bible story we know of the birth of Jesus.
From the first page, I was immediately drawn into Mary’s life and then Joseph’s. As the story unfolds, I laughed and cried as these two young people come together as a betrothed couple, face the realities of Mary’s pregnancy, marry, and give birth to Jesus. It was everything I expected from one of Paula’s novels and then some.
I highly recommend reading The Carpenter and His Bride and while you’re at it, if you haven’t already, read her Sisters of Lazarus series as well.
